Carol Stream Police Department

Personnel complaints are forwarded to the Department’s Deputy Chief, who will assign it for investigation. The Department will notify you at the conclusion of the investigation and one of the following dispositions:

Unfounded- The alleged acts did not occur or did not involve department members. Complaints that are determined to be frivolous will fall within this classification.

Exonerated - The alleged act occurred, but the act was justified, lawful, and/or proper.

Not sustained - There is insufficient evidence to sustain the complaint or exonerate the member.

Sustained – There is sufficient evidence to establish that the act occurred and that it constituted misconduct.

If the complaint is sustained, the department member may be disciplined at the discretion of the Chief of Police. One or more of the following disciplinary actions may be taken:

• Counseling or Training
• Reprimand
• Suspension
• Recommendation to terminate the employee
